Mayoral tussle for Upper House seat

Deirdre Flint

CENTRAL Highlands Mayor Deirdre Flint has announced her intention to contest the Legislative Council division of Derwent following the impending retirement of the incumbent MLC, Michael Aird. A former senior member of the Liberal party, Mrs Flint, of Hollow Tree, will stand as an independent.

Mrs Flint’s candidiature adds a new dimension to the campaign, challenging the endorsed Labor candidate Craig Farrell, who is deputy mayor of the Derwent Valley Council. Mr Farrell, of New Norfolk, has previously sought election to the House of Assembly as a candidate for the division of Lyons.
