Christmas is coming

THE New Norfolk Business Alliance will present its annual Christmas Parade at noon on December 10. Promotions co-ordinator Ngaire Glover said entries had already started to come in and it was great to have the participation of combined churches and several new enquiries.

The number of vehicles has had to be limited in the past couple of years to enable the safe participation of those walking, as well as ensure that the length of the parade is easily manageable. With the Derwent Valley Concert Band leading the parade and the Derwent Scottish Pipe Band bringing up the rear, the pageant is expected to attract a lot of schools and children participating. There are Derwent Dollar prizes for a variety of categories.

The usual Derwent Dollars Giveaway will be held with original entries (available only in the Derwent Valley Gazette) to be placed in a box at Glasser and Parker in High St by noon on the day. The local SES will be manning the road closures and High St will be closed for the duration of the parade. High St between Burnett and Charles Sts will remain closed until after the giveaway draw at around 1.15pm. It is expected that the Lions Club will host their ever-popular barbecue and of Santa will be distributing wrapped sweets.

All enquiries for parade participation should be made to Ngaire on 0419 337 608 or email (all entries must be registered in advance).

Shop windows: All businesses in the central business district are invited to participate in a Christmas shop window display. These will be judged by a panel on December 19. No advice of entry is needed.

Panto: In conjunction with the local festivities, the Derwent Valley Players will hold its annual Christmas pantomime on December 10-11 at the New Norfolk War Memorial Hall. Tickets for Alice in Pantoland will be available from 20th Century Artifacts, High St.
