ON a cold and foggy morning last Saturday, a large number of New Norfolk Junior Football Club players from the Under 9s through to Under 15s came together for the annual club breakfast at the New Norfolk District Football Clubrooms. Two special guests spoke to the future stars of tomorrow. They were former NNDFC champion and coach Hedley Thompson and former NNDFC player David Cornelius, father of Aaron Cornelius who was drafted from Glenorchy to the Brisbane Lions in the AFL.
David spoke of Aaron’s career so far and what was required to play at the highest level. This was a great experience for the young players and I’m sure this inspired all players to aim to play the best that they can. David played about 130 games for New Norfolk and was a member of the 1982 premiership side. He told me later that Aaron has said that later in his career he would like to coach the team his Dad played with. I’m sure the NNDFC would accept Aaron with open arms.
A big thank you to the New Norfolk Old Players Association and the ladies for putting on such a great breakfast. This is a great event on the calendar each year, it is much appreciated. Lastly a big thank you also to Michael Graham for his efforts in organising the breakfast. Well done mate, you did it well.
