DERWENT Valley community radio station Tyga FM was relaunched from its new purpose-built studios yesterday. The station has been broadcasting from its temporary home at 2 High St since it began transmission in December 2009.

The new studio and office is in the recently completed science and language centre at New Norfolk High School. The move was made several weeks ago, along with the relocation of transmission equipment to higher ground on Downies Hill. Today’s official opening included a ribbon cutting by Derwent MLC Craig Farrell and short speeches by Mr Farrell and Derwent Valley Community Radio president Steve “Slabs” Halloran (both pictured above), followed by a sausage sizzle.

A highlight of the occasion was the unveiling of a new logo/mascot which was created by Thomas Novotny.

The station can be heard on 98.9FM.
