Derwent paying dividends

Stuart Harwood and his 4.3kg sea-runner trout.

STUART Harwood and the 4.3kg trout he caught last month are the front page item on this month’s New Norfolk Angler, the newsletter of the New Norfolk Licensed Anglers Association. The newsletter reports that the River Derwent has been providing some fantastic fishing this season with no less than four large trout caught in the same week in mid-September, all topping the 4kg mark.

Stuart Harwood caught his superb 9lb 8oz sea-run trout at New Norfolk late one night while Matt Sherriff from the north of the state stopped off for a quick fish and hooked a searunner of a similar wight on his second cast. “If anyone wants to dispute the Derwent as the state’s best trout fishery early season, they better put forward a pretty good argument,” editor Justin Causby said.
