AUTHORITIES have downgraded the bushfire at Marked Tree Rd, Gretna, to “advice” level. This is the lowest of the three warning levels. The fire has covered about 250 hectares and is now in the process of being controlled.
The fire danger rating in the area remains very high and there may be embers, smoke and ash falling on Gretna, Rosegarland and surrounding areas. There is no immediate threat to communities. Crews will be conducting back-burning and strengthening containment lines in the north-east of the fire. This will continue to cause smoke tonight.
Lyell Highway is closed between the Gretna Hotel and Hollow Tree Rd. Bluff Rd is closed due to power lines being down across the road. For up to date road closure information, check the Tasmania Police website.
The Tasmania Fire Service recommends avoiding travel in the affected area unless you are a resident or have urgent business. Motorists are advised to be aware of the potential for downed power lines and wandering livestock as well as emergency vehicles and crews operating in the area. Motorists on roads that are affected by smoke are advised to turn on headlights and reduce speed.
