Molesworth fire, final for night

Tasmania Fire Service map showing the extent of the fire today.

THE status of the Molesworth bushfire has fluctuated between “watch and act” and “emergency warning message” today. At 10.25 tonight it was once again downgraded to “watch and act” but the fire remains uncontrolled and it has been suggested that several more days will pass before the emergency is over.

The fire started in Glen Dhu Rd on Wednesday and has today impacted on Suhrs Rd, Fehlbergs Rd, Valley Rd and Collins Cap Rd to Springdale Rd. The Tasmania Fire Service says the fire may impact on the areas of Myrtle Forest Rd and Old Springdale Rd within the next 6-12 hours.

The bushfire is currently creating spot-fires ahead of the main fire. These fires may threaten homes earlier than the predicted main fire front. There may be embers, smoke and ash falling on Molesworth, Glenlusk and Collinsvale.

Reported Road Closures:

  • Collins Cap Rd from Tubbs Rd to Old Springdale Rd by wastewater treatment plant.
  • Glen Dhu Rd is closed. Molesworth Rd is open to the public, however road blocks are in place at the junctions of Glen Dhu Rd and Collins Cap Rd restricting access to Glen Dhu Rd, Collins Cap Rd, Tubbs Rd and Wyre Forest Rd to residents only.
