Rain eases fire situation

MUCH of the Derwent Valley has woken to rain this morning, as well as much cooler conditions. Temperatures at Bushy Park and Ouse hovered around 30 degrees late into the night before reaching a low of 16 degrees at 6am. Today’s forecast for New Norfolk is a maximum of 21 degrees, with rain at times.

The Tasmania Fire Service remains on the scene of the Molesworth bushfire as well as yesterday’s Gretna grassfire, both of which are at “advice level”. Monitor the situation by listening to ABC Local Radio on 936AM or 89.7FM, and see the official updates online at www.fire.tas.gov.au.

The following meetings will be held today to update communities on the fire situation in their areas:

  • Molesworth community meeting at the New Norfolk High School gymnasium, 101 Blair St, at 6pm.
  • Collinsvale community meeting at the Collinsvale War Memorial Hall, 14 Hall Rd at 7.30pm.
