Round 15

IN 2nd Grade New Norfolk I had a shock loss to the lowly Derwent at the New Town High School last weekend. The Red Caps were sent into bat by the home team and were bundled out for just 124. With openers Rohan Heron and Jake King top scoring with 25 runs each, the only other batsman to reach double figures was Stewart Rice with 20. In reply Derwent got home with 3.1 overs remaining, finishing 7 for 125 off 46.5 overs. Rohan Heron 2 for 41 off 9.5 and Stewart Rice 2 for 23 off 10 did as well with the ball as they did with the bat. Ashley Morgan 1 for 7 off 7, Josh Rowlands 1-18 off 10 and Josh Dykes 1-34 off 10 also bowled well.

Molesworth I went down to Richmond/Cambridge by six wickets at Boyer Oval on Saturday. Molesworth having first hit made 139 off 37.1 overs. Opener Mark Reggett did well with a fine 50 (3 fours and 1 six). Brad Coppleman also batted well making 44 (2 fours, 3 sixes). Chris Slater made 15. In reply Richmond/Cambridge reached 141 for the loss of four wickets. Nathan Eiszele bowled very well 2-17 off 8 and Daniel Coppleman 2 for 29 off 8 and Chris Slater 1 for 28 off 8.

In the last 2nd grade match Gretna I defeated the Montagu Bay Sharks on Forfeit.

With a whopping 200 run partnership between Leigh Berry and Richard Munnings, New Norfolk II crushed cross-town rivals Molesworth II by a massive 201 runs. Berry who has already scored one century this season made a superb 130, well backed up by Munnings who just missed out on a century, making 98. The pair were just about unstoppable on their home ground at Tynwald Park, finding the boundary on many occasions. With the big win the Red Caps have now moved into third spot of the 5th Grade ladder. They finished 7 for 289 off their allotted 50 overs. Of the Molesworth bowlers veteran Sean Hay did very well finishing with 3 for 35 off 10 while Daniel Coppleman got 2 for 30 and Dean King 1 for 33. In reply Molesworth II could only manage 9 for 88 off 23.3 overs. Having just the10 players didnt help things either. Daniel Coppleman top-scored with 29 and Dean King made 15. The New Norfolk bowlers continued on with the good play with wicket machine Josh Walsh again getting amongst it taking 2 as did L. Lewis 2 for 18 off 3 and Jamie Maddox 2 for 31 off 10.

In 4th Grade Bushy Park made it back-to-back wins after their two losses with a four wicket win over Hobart at the Bushy Park Showgrounds. The visitors had first hit and were bowled out for just 100 due to some great bowling by Troy Smith 3 for 14 off 10, Dylan Grant 3 for 25 off 7.2 and Mitch Crosswell 3 for 27 off 10. In the run chase Bushy got of to a bad start losing opener Troy Smith for a duck, then Geoff Crosswell on 3 to be 2 for 25. Damien Madden steadied the ship and went on to make 36. Dylan Grant made 12 not out while his brother Trent also made 12 before he was given out LBW. Mitch Crosswell made 11. Earlier in the day, Troy Smith wished he had a hole to hide in after dropping two catches in succession. The unwanted attention was soon taken away during Bushy’s innings when captain Shaun Fenton was caught out near the boundary for 7.

In the other 4th Grade match Gretna II went down to a more polished Old Beach outfit at Gretna on Sunday. Old Beach won the toss and sent Gretna in to bat making 10 for 153 in 42,5 overs. Brian Smith top-scored with a hard earned 45 runs (3 fours and 1 six) and shared a 46-run partnership with Joey Eyles who made 17 runs. Bruce Emery did well until he was trapped in front for 24 1-4 while his some Cameron made 16. In reply Old Beach were never troubled reaching 158 for the loss of no wickets. I hear Brian Smith took two knocks to the head from the Kookaburra, one from a opposition bowler and the other from a team mate and both in the same spot. You can’t keep a good man down! Congratulations to Ben Shaw who played his 100th club game for Gretna and also to Darren Lennox who played his 100th game for Gretna II.
