THE Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service reports that the Lake Dobson Rd at Mt Field National Park is open to four wheel drive vehicles and two wheel drives fitted with chains.

The road in the alpine area is extremely icy, and must not be attempted by two wheel drives without chains. See the PWS Facebook page for updates.

The Southern Tasmanian Ski Association will operate its ski tow today. Visit its website website for updates.

How do you get to the snow? Follow the signs to Mt Field National Park. Once inside the park you take the Lake Dobson Rd (to the left of the the visitor centre) which is a gravel road up through the forest. Drive to the end of the road (about 30 minutes) and you will arrive at a large gravel car park next to Lake Dobson. For some people, that’s enough of a snow experience. Others wishing to ski can walk up the track to the ski village, which takes another 25-30 minutes. Warning: Lake Dobson Rd is open to 4WD vehicles and 2WD cars are to be fitted with snow chains.
