Council votes rolling in

NEARLY 1500 votes have already been returned in this month’s Derwent Valley Council election.

This week saw Australia Post deliver 7517 ballot packs to eligible voters in the municipality and as of this morning 1495 votes had already been returned, or 19.89%.

This participation rate compares favourably with the state average of 14.84%. Flinders Island voters are setting the pace with 29.09% of their ballots already returned while Launceston voters are lagging behind with the lowest return rate of 11.43% so far.

The Tasmanian Electoral Commission encourages voters to fill out their ballot papers this weekend and get them in the mail as soon as possible, to make sure their votes are counted. The cutoff is at 10am on October 30.

Any elector who has not yet received their ballot pack should drop into their local council office, or call the Tasmanian Electoral Commission on 1800 801 701 to ask for a replacement pack.

Meet all the Derwent Valley Council election candidates.
