Pay rise for councillors

TASMANIA’S local government councillors have received their yearly pay rise. Councillors throughout the state receive an allowance in addition to any expenses covered by their respective councils.

Each councillor receives a fixed allowance plus additional allowances for mayors and deputy mayors, all based on the size of the council. Each elected member of the Derwent Valley Council now receives $12,651 each year. The deputy mayor and mayor receive an additional $12,109 and $31,628 respectively.

Councillors around the state can also be reimbursed for telephone and internet use, travelling, and the care of any dependents while carrying out their duties. Derwent Valley councillors are also provided with a tablet computers.
