Summer fun at Mt Field

THE Discovery Ranger Summer Program continues at many national parks this weekend, including Mt Field National Park in the Derwent Valley. A Discovery Ranger will offer free fun and educational activities at various times.

Bring sunscreen, sturdy shoes and a hat for all daytime activities. Programmed activities may be cancelled in bad weather. An adult must accompany children under 12. For more information contact Discovery Ranger Hannah on 0431 125 715.

Friday, January 11
11am: Campfires & Firesticks (1hr). Meet at the front of the Visitor Centre. Join Aboriginal Discovery Ranger Tas Langford on a cultural journey and find out how fire has shaped our landscape.
2pm: Fun Guys & Ferns in the Forest (1hr). Meet at the Tall Trees car park. There’s so mush – room all around! Something at every fern, you’re sure to take a lichen to it – come learn about Tasmania’s rainforests.
8.30pm: Creatures of the Night! (1hr). Come along for the chance to meet some of Tasmania’s very special wildlife. Limited numbers for this spotlight walk – please book at the Visitor Centre.

Saturday, January 12
8am: Early bird gets the best (1hr). Meet at the front of the Visitor Centre. A-pparrotly you’d be getting up at the quack of dawn for this one, come along for the chance to experience our very own local avian dinosaurs!
1.30pm: Bush art & craft (1.5hrs). Meet at the Visitor Centre. Take part in creating your own bush masterpieces!
4pm: Story Time with Ranger Hannah (1hr). Meet at the front of the Visitors Centre. Come listen and see what our furry and feathered friends can get up to!

Sunday, January 13
9am: Yoga in the Park! (1hr). Meet at the clearing near the campground. Warm up for the day with some fun yoga.
1pm: Shelter building (1hr). Meet at the Visitor Centre. Learn about the traditional custodian’s way of life by making a traditional shelter with Aboriginal Discovery Ranger Tas Langford.
3pm: Wander amongst ancients & giants (1hr). Meet at the Tall Trees car park. Gain a new perspective on trees, forests and fire and how we are all connected.

PLEASE NOTE: All activities are free but park entry fees apply. Bring sun and rain protection. Activities may be cancelled in bad weather or unsafe conditions. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Phone Discovery Ranger Hannah on 0431 125 715 for any enquiries regarding this program.
