NEW Norfolk’s Marcus Parker was the clear winner of the award for the Southern Football League’s leading goalkicker for season 2019 at last night’s William Leitch Medal count.

Parker took out the Colin Smith Medal with his bag of 77 goals, well ahead of the runners-up.

The medal was presented by last year’s winner, Michael Cassidy, with master of ceremonies Andrew Hopwood announcing that Parker’s total had grown to 85 goals during the finals, giving him an average of 5.6 goals per match.

Parker also finished in the top 10 placings in the William Leitch Medal count for the league’s best and fairest player, along with team-mates Jacob Wigg who finished third and Josh Clifford who finished eighth. Claremont’s Mitchell Walker was named the winner.

In 10th place in the William Leitch count and fourth place in the goalkicking with 50 for the season was Dodges Ferry’s Campbell Hooker, son of former New Norfolk player Reid Hooker.

Eagles seconds player Luke Browning was runner-up in the George Watt Medal for Best and Fairest in the reserves competition, finishing one point behind joint winners Dylan Ford (Brighton) and Shawn Clark (Lindisfarne), while club stalwart Corey Ransley was a finalist in the Volunteer of the Year Award.

The NNDFC Best and Fairest count will be held at the clubrooms on September 21, starting at 7pm. Entry is free, the dress code is smart casual, and a band will perform after the count.
