KSCA Womens Competition
Round 1
THE women’s cricket competition got under way on Saturday and it was an historic moment for the Bothwell club with its women’s team playing its first match. The ladies put in a fantastic effort, making the very good score of 8/128 from their 20 overs, going down by five wickets to a more experienced Montagu Bay 5/186 off 20 overs at Bothwell.
Leisa Pearce top-scored with a fine 27, hitting five 4s. Kristy Mayne also did very well making 18 with two 4s. Tara-Lee Pearce made 16 (two 4s) and Jodi Hansch made 12 (two 4s). With the ball, Tara-Lee Pearce was the main wicket-taker with 2-21 from three overs.
Full credit goes to all involved on getting the team up and running as it’s no easy task. I’m sure many great times will be had in the future. Women’s cricket is certainly on the rise and cricket the better for it.
In the other local women’s match, New Norfolk with 7/111 off 20 overs was defeated by St Anne’s 2/159 off 20 overs at East St Oval No.1. For the Red Caps, Lisa East made 30 (retired), Tegan Kemmler 19 (retired) and Alice Jordan 12 (retired), to be the main run scorers. With the ball, Kelly Kemmler took 2-36 from her four overs.
