POLICE are seeking information about three burglaries which were reported in central New Norfolk early yesterday morning. Officers attended an address in George St around 5am after a woman reported a man breaking into a gun safe in her shed.
Two other burglaries were reported in the same street and police would like to hear from anyone who might have seen anyone in the area acting suspiciously.
“Several police units attended one of the addresses at around 5am after a woman reported a man breaking into the gun safe in her shed,” Inspector Philippa Burke said. “The man fled with four firearms after being disturbed by the woman. She was not injured.”
Inspector Burke said the stolen firearms included two rifles and two shotguns, and all are registered. She said no ammunition was stolen.
“Anyone who noticed anyone acting suspiciously in the New Norfolk area in the early hours of [yesterday] morning or who has information that could assist the police investigation is urged to come forward,” she said.
“This is a serious matter and we believe there are members of the community who either
know the people responsible, or who may have been offered the stolen firearms. The New Norfolk community is encouraged to help us recover the stolen items as soon as possible.”
