Minor Flood Warning for the River Derwent

Flood Warning Number: 3
Minor flooding will develop along the lower River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam Saturday afternoon and a minor peak is expected Sunday morning. Flooding is not expected to extend downstream to Macquarie Plains and New Norfolk. Minor flooding is also occurring along the Styx River.
In the 24 hours to 9 am Saturday, widespread rainfall totals between 5-35 mm were observed in the River Derwent catchment, with isolated higher totals up to 55 mm at King William Creek.
Additional rainfall totals of 2-15 mm are expected for Saturday, with higher totals possible in elevated areas. No significant rainfall (less than 5 mm) is forecast for Sunday.
River levels are high in the upper Derwent, Florentine, Tyenna, Styx and Plenty Rivers.
Strong and dangerous flows will be a hazard over the next couple of days.
River Derwent above River Ouse:
Strong river rises continue in the upper River Derwent and its tributaries.
River Derwent above Meadowbank Dam:
Strong river rises continue in the middle reaches of the River Derwent.
Additional river level rises are likely in the Tyenna River during Saturday.
Minor flooding is occurring along the Styx River. The Styx River at Bruces Bridge is currently 2.08 m (minor flood level is 2.0 m) and rising.
River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam:
Minor flooding is expected along the River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam.
The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is currently at 3.96 metres and rising. The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is expected to exceed the minor flood level (4.10 m) Saturday afternoon. The river level is likely to peak between 4.50 and 4.80 metres Sunday morning.
The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains is currently at 2.05 metres and rising. The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains is expected to remain below the minor flood level (4.00 m) during Saturday and Sunday.
River Derwent around New Norfolk:
Flooding is not expected along the River Derwent around New Norfolk.
The River Derwent at New Norfolk will remain below the minor flood level (2.00 m) during Saturday and Sunday.
