PLEASANT conditions greeted the big crowd that turned out for the 20th New Norfolk Christmas parade this afternoon. The pageant had about 33 entries, which was several more than last year.

Federal parliamentarians Jacqui Lambie and Brian Mitchell joined Derwent Valley mayor Ben Shaw in judging the floats which did two laps of the town’s High St.

The “Outback Christmas” entry by George Simonetis was judged to be the winner, featuring a vintage tractor pulling a cart load of friends. St Brigid’s School was awarded second prize and third place went to the Derwent Valley Dog Walkers.

The parade was once again broadcast live on community radio station Tyga FM, with station manager Roz Chapman and Craig Farrell MLC giving a running commentary.

New Norfolk’s Saturday market was suspended due to the parade but will return next Saturday from 8am-2pm in the town centre.

The parade was conducted by the Derwent Valley Rotary Club on behalf of the New Norfolk Business Alliance.
