THE Derwent Valley Community House has been awarded a share of the State Government’s Community Support Levy Charitable Organisation Grants for the 2019-20 financial year.
Human Services minister Roger Jaensch today said the government was a strong supporter of charitable organisations and the vital role they played in supporting vulnerable Tasmanians and building stronger communities.
“The successful applicants for the 2019-20 Community Support Levy Charitable Organisation grants have now been notified,” Mr Jaensch said. “The Community Support Levy is funded from a percentage of the gross profits from electronic gaming machines in hotels and clubs in Tasmania.
“This year’s small equipment and community projects grants focus on enhancing the wellbeing of vulnerable individuals, families and communities. Projects will improve the capacity of organisations to provide services, leisure activities and/or inclusion opportunities within their community.
Charitable organisations applied for wide variety of projects, all with a different purpose. The Derwent Valley Community House received $5500 for improvements to its training room. One of the largest grants went to Rural Alive and Well, who received $19,800 to deliver a support service for rural youth in Tasmania aged 13-18, who may be at higher risk of committing suicide.
“Large or small, all these projects will make a real difference in their communities. In total about $200,000 has been allocated to 23 organisations across Tasmania. I would encourage all charitable organisations to seek more information about these grants and to apply in future rounds if they believe they qualify or have a suitable project in mind,” Mr Jaensch said.
The Derwent Valley Community House has received several previous allocations from this program, while other local recipients in previous rounds have included the Magra CWA, Magra Fire Brigade, Ellendale Hall, Glenora Online Access Centre and the Lachlan Community Hall.
