Salvo shop moving to prime location

The former Browning’s Clothing store is the new home of the
Salvation Army’s New Norfolk thrift shop.

THE long anticipated relocation of New Norfolk’s Salvation Army thrift shop is under way, with stock being transferred to the new premises this week.

After many years on the corner of High and Circle streets, the shop will open on Thursday at its new location on the corner of High and Burnett streets, ahead of Friday’s official opening and blessing.

It has long been speculated that the Salvos would relocate their thrift shop from its present location to one of several vacant High St premises offering larger floorspace.

The new location is one of the newer shops in High St, built in 1989 for Browning’s Clothing on the site of the Freemason’s Hotel. From 2014-19 it housed Zap Fitness and in recent months it has hosted a pop-up branch of Shine Retail Therapy, which also occupied the building after Browning’s and before Zap.

The current Salvo shop at 1 High St. It
was previously sited two doors down at
5 High St, and at 8 Circle St prior to that.

The high-profile building with its prime street frontage and 16-vehicle car park, is presently being offered for sale by Devine Property, which is accepting offers over $650,000.

The public is invited to attend the dedication and blessing, which will take place at 9.30am this Friday, March 13. Those attending are asked to RSVP to tim.size@salvationarmy.org.au or phone 0408 003 635.
