TWO new online activities are being offered by the Derwent Valley Youth Future Action Team (D’FAT), joining the two which were offered as replacement school holiday activities last month, supported by the Salvation Army.

Starting next weekend is a new round of”The Gamer Zone”, an online gaming competition to be held each weekend from May 9-23, allowing players to compete against their friends. Games include Minecraft, Fortnite, Rocket League, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Call of Duty, Ark: Survival Evolved, and Brawlhalla. Click here to join The Gamer Zone.

D’FAT has decided to extend last month’s “Scratch” competition until the end of May. This is a free online competition for participants aged six to 13, enabling them to create their own interactive stories, games and animations. D’FAT is looking for the best stories and animations on the theme “what is great about the Derwent Valley.” There are prizes available and the stories will be published on D’FAT’s Facebook group. The second new activity is “Tinkercad”, a free online app for creating 3D designs which can be exported and used in the Minecraft game. Prizes are on offer for the best 3D designs created this month, and these too will be shared on the D’FAT Facebook.

Scratch, Stencyl and Tinkercad are Children’s University validated learning activities. Children’s University Tasmania is operated by the Peter Underwood Centre for Educational Attainment at the University of Tasmania.
