LONG-SERVING president Jamie Hill was named best clubman at the New Norfolk Cricket Club’s trophy presentations at the New Norfolk RSL on Saturday night. Hill has led the club for nearly a decade and its successful position today is attributed to his passion and drive.
Hill’s nominator for the Charles Eiszele Memorial Best Clubman award said he had helped to save the club from folding and had continued to push it toward further success. “He has spent hours and hours doing a lot of behind-the-scenes things to give players the best opportunity to be happy, and has made some major moves to put the club in the position it is in now,” the nomination said.
“This season alone, Jamie has watched the club win a first grade T20 and 50 -vers premiership, as well as a second grade 50- overs premiership. He has helped build a strong junior side, as well as helped out with the women’s team. Hillsy has done everything and more for this club, putting his blood, sweat and tears into it to make it successful. This award is richly deserved and I’m sure everyone will agree that Hillsy is a legend and someone that is the heart and soul of the Redcaps.”
In a further acknowledgement of Hills’ contribution to the club, he received a presentation from sponsor Paul Belcher during Saturday night’s function, as well as a $500 contribution towards the establishment of a girls’ Under 15-team.
