Several in custody after New Norfolk incidents

A MAN was taken into police custody earlier today following reports of a firearm being discharged in the area of Benjamin Terrace at New Norfolk. A helicopter was used to locate one of the people involved, who was later found at a property in nearby Back River Rd.

No-one was injured in the incident, which occurred around noon today, with police saying all those involved were known to each other. The CIB investigated, along with forensics and ballistics specialists, as part of the search for a silver Subaru Impreza with a black bonnet.

Later in the day, police attended the scene of a disturbance in Back River Rd, Magra, which they said was believed to be linked to the earlier incident in New Norfolk. Several people were taken into custody and police said there was no threat to the community.

“One civilian and one police officer have received minor lacerations to the hand,” a police spokesman said. Anyone with information about these events is asked to contact the police on 131 444 or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or crimestopperstas.com.au.
