Gretna Cricket Club celebrates the season that was

GRETNA Cricket Club members and friends gathered at the Gretna War Memorial Recreation Ground last weekend to celebrate the successes of the last season and begin preparations for the summer ahead. The event had been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The gathering at the club’s home ground last Saturday was for the purpose of presenting trophies to the recipients of various club awards and milestones, including life memberships to Colin Cunningham and Brian Smith. Other life members present were Peter Rainbird, Joey Hack, Michael Browning, Glenn Blackwell, Mathew Burns, Ben Rainbird and Wade Gleeson. The club thanked all its sponsors and trophy donors, as well as Paul Jarvis for supplying a spit roast for the event.

2019/20 Trophy Winners
GRETNA I – Batting average: Ben Rainbird 40.83; Aggregate: Ben Rainbird 490 runs; Bowling average: Craig Cunningham 16.76; Aggregate: Aaron Maddox 26 wickets; Most catches: Corey Ransley 10; Geoff Jarvis Memorial Trophy (best all-rounder): Ben Rainbird 105 points; Players award: Mathew Burns 22.5 votes; Runner-up: Aaron Maddox 18.5 votes; Best in finals: Aaron Maddox 33.60 points.
GRETNA II – Batting average: Zac Crosswell 74.83; Aggregate: Zac Crosswell 449 runs; Bowling average: Bailey Wheeler 12.88; Aggregate: Adam Browning 25 wickets; Most catches: Bailey Wheeler 8; Best all-rounder: Zac Crosswell 89.90 points; Players award: Zac Crosswell 15.5 votes; Runner-up: Bailey Wheeler 15 votes; Best in finals: Zac Crosswell 15 points.
OTHER AWARDS – Cecil Gray Memorial Trophy (best under 21): Zac Crosswell 95.30 points; Captains Trophy: Adam Browning; Best Clubman: Anthony McKenzie; Duck Trophy: Corey Ransley 4. Life Membership: Colin Cunningham and Brian Smith.

CLUB GAMES REACHED: Jake Campbell 50; Andrew McKenzie 50; Zac Crosswell 100; Craig Cunningham 250; Corey Ransley 250; Brian Smith 350.
GRETNA I GAMES: Aaron Maddox 150; Rhys Browning 150; Todd Jarvis 150; Ben Rainbird 300; Mathew Burns 300; Glenn Blackwell 300.
GRETNA II GAMES: Jake Campbell 50; Andrew McKenzie 50; Ross Langford 100. Brian Smith has overtaken Paul “Mickey” Rainbird’s total of 226 games played for Gretna II, setting the new record at 227.

Annual General Meeting
At the AGM held on July 24, at the Gretna Cricket Club, Peter Rainbird was re-elected for his 30th season as president. The other office-bearers are: Rhys Browning, secretary; Todd Jarvis, treasurer; Phillip Sharpe, patron; Jordan Hastie, association delegate; Adam Browning, equipment and merchandise co-ordinator; Jackson Ackerly, canteen co-ordinator; Wade Gleeson, sponsorship officer and historian. The club has entered two teams in the Southern Cricket Association for season 2020/21.
