Another chance for the Eagles colts as the reserves bow out

THE Eagles Colts need to regroup and put together for quarters of football when they meet Dodges Ferry on Saturday, if they are to remain in the Southern Football League finals.

After a poor performance against Sorell the week before, the boys travelled to Huonville last Sunday to do battle with the third-placed Huonville Lions in the final roster game of the year in the colts competition.

The Lions jumped out of the barriers quickly and went into quarter-time with a 22-point lead. The New Norfolk boys fought back well in the second quarter to match the home side in general play. More accurate kicking enabled the Eagles to reduce the lead by three points to go into half-time 19 points behind.

The third quarter was an intense battle with both sides scoring three goals and two behinds to maintain the 19-point difference at three quarter time. In a disappointing last quarter, the Lions poured on five goals and four behinds to New Norfolk’s two behinds, to run out convincing winners by 51 points.

New Norfolk will play Dodges Ferry in the colts elimination final at Boyer Oval this Saturday at 10am. New Norfolk’s senior side will then meet Lindisfarne at the same venue for the first semi-final at 2pm.

RESERVES: New Norfolk travelled to Cygnet last Saturday to do battle with Claremont in an all-important elimination final. It was a keenly-contested game in sometimes windy and showery conditions.

The players tried hard all day but were too loose on the opposition and subsequently paid the price. Inaccurate kicking in less than ideal conditions ultimately finished their season.

It was an inconsistent season and the team will no doubt be disappointed in the way it finished. Thanks to coach Corey Ransley for the work he has done with this season.
