Tarraleah ‘firearm’ incident draws a blank

A POLICE investigation into an alleged firearms discharge at Tarraleah this morning has drawn a blank, with officers now suspecting it may have been a motor vehicle backfiring as opposed to a firearm incident.

It was initially reported that a firearm had been discharged at about 8.30 this morning in the Oldina Drive area at Tarraleah.

Police on the scene at the remote Derwent Valley tourist village say they have been unable to locate any witnesses who observed a firearm or saw a firearm being discharged or any evidence at the scene that a firearm was discharged.

A vehicle that may have been at the scene was intercepted and searched and no firearms were located. Anyone with information in relation to the allegation can contact Tasmania Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000.
