Remembrance Day to honour 75 years since the end of World War II

A SERVICE for Remembrance Day will be held next Wednesday, November 11, at the Cenotaph in Circle St, New Norfolk. This is organised by the New Norfolk RSL Sub-Branch and the Derwent Valley Council. All are welcome.

The event will start at 10.45am and will include a minute’s silence at 11am. The RSL invites anyone wishing to lay wreaths on the Cenotaph to do so at the appropriate time on the day.

Originally known as Armistice Day, Remembrance Day commemorates the moment that the guns of World War I fell silent at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. This year’s observance also commemorates the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II.

The Derwent Valley Council’s forecourt car park will be closed from 8pm on November 10 until noon on November 11.

Willows Flowers at New Norfolk is taking bookings for wreaths and other floral tributes. For more information or to place an order, visit Shop 8, Circle St (opposite the council chambers) or call 0457 082 869.
