POLICE have charged an Ellendale man with multiple offences following incidents alleged to have occurred in Hobart last night (Friday). Police say they saw a red Ford Escape SUV being driven erratically near the intersection of Gladstone St and Sandy Bay Rd at about 9.30pm.
“The vehicle was then intercepted at the intersection of Byron St and Sandy Bay Rd where it is alleged the driver then reversed and collided with the front of the police vehicle which was stationary behind the Ford Escape,” a police spokesperson said.
Police say no-one was injured as a result of the crash, and the driver of the Ford was then taken into custody. “The man was then taken to the Hobart Police Station where he was charged with motor vehicle stealing and numerous driving offences including drive a motor vehicle while exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit,” police said.
The man, aged 37, was bailed to appear in the Hobart Magistrate’s Court in May. Police will allege that the Ford was stolen from an Hobart shortly before the incidents on Sandy Bay Rd.
