Farrell declared the winner in Derwent

A PROVISIONAL distribution of preferences in the Legislative Council election for the seat of Derwent saw the sitting member, Craig Farrell, declared the winner on Friday afternoon. This was followed by the formal announcement – the declaration of the poll – on the steps of the Legislative Council in Hobart yesterday (Saturday) morning.

The distribution of preferences from the Animal Justice Party candidate Ivan Davis’ 2026 votes saw a further 1320 added to Mr Farrell’s tally and 706 to that of the Liberal Party candidate, Ben Shaw. This resulted in Mr Farrell’s percentage of the vote increasing to 55.74% and he was declared the winner. The remaining postal votes and 70 provisional votes will be processed and counted on Tuesday.

“Thank you to all those who helped with the campaign,” Mr Farrell said. “The time and support that you put in is very much appreciated. The work starts again today.” The declaration was also attended by Mr Davis, while Mr Shaw was unavailable due to other commitments.
