Brr! Stay safe and warm out there

WITH the temperature still below zero in New Norfolk at 9am and a thick frost blanketing the town, the Bureau of Meteorology has issued a road weather alert for the Upper Derwent Valley and most of the state.

The Tyga-FM weather station in New Norfolk recorded an overnight low temperate of -3.2 degrees at 7.05am, rising to -1.3 at 9am. Check the community radio station’s latest weather observations here. The Bureau of Meteorology forecasts an Upper Derwent Valley maximum temperature between 6 and 9 degrees today.

In an alert issued at 4am, the bureau says icy roads will make driving conditions potentially dangerous during the day in parts of the Upper Derwent Valley, North West Coast, Central North, North East, Western, Central Plateau, Midlands, East Coast and South East forecast districts.

Tasmania Police has issued cautions about frost on Upper Derwent Valley roads including the Lyell Hwy between Black Bobs and Derwent Bridge, Ouse River Bridge on Marlborough Rd, and Highland Lakes Rd from Steppes to Miena. Check for other road warnings at the Tasmania Police community alerts page.

The next road alert will be issued by 11am.
