In the News: Happy birthday and merry Christmas in July

IT’S happy birthday and merry Christmas in the 15th print edition of the New Norfolk and Derwent Valley News, which is on sale today. The birthday is ours, and it’s Christmas in July at The Valley Sports Bar. Host Liam Triffett is pictured above.

Today marks the first anniversary of the launch of the New Norfolk and Derwent Valley News in print, as well as being the first time the newspaper is issued on a fortnightly basis. The move from monthly production to every two weeks was celebrated at a gathering at the New Norfolk Rowing Club last night.

Among the 28 pages of purely local news is information about the Christmas in July function being held at The Valley Sports Bar (former football clubrooms) next weekend. On the evening of July 24 the venue will host a traditional two-course dinner with live entertainment. Tickets to the Christmas in July cost $50 and are limited to 150. Bookings are essential. Call 0400 126 580 for more information or to book a place.

Once again there are nearly 50 individual items in the latest issue of the paper, as well as two pages of puzzles and a two-week TV guide. Derwent Valley shops stocking the paper include the New Norfolk Newsagency, New Norfolk Foodmarket, Eagle Snack Bar, New Norfolk IGA, Mood Food New Norfolk, Bushy Park Roadhouse, Westerway Roadhouse, Fika Time Cafe Maydena, Ellendale Post Office, Hamilton Post Office and the Bothwell Supermarket.

Other sellers include the Lagoon Store, Granton; Claremont Newsagency; Kingston Nextra; Glenorchy Central News; Moonah News, New Town Plaza, Elizabeth Mall News and Salamanca News. You can even pick up a copy at the Longford Newsagency.

Readers in any part of Tasmania can ask their preferred newsagency to order them a copy via the Mercury as the distribution agent. New Norfolk residents can ask the Norfolk Newsagency to organise for a paper seller to visit within the town boundaries. More distant readers might prefer to download a copy from newnorfolknews.com.

The ongoing support of readers and advertisers is greatly appreciated. Feedback on the paper is invited by emailing damian@newnorfolknews.com
