Corumbene Village opens its doors

THE Village at Corumbene in New Norfolk is poised to open its doors and play a part in easing the state’s housing crisis. With support from the State Government, Corumbene Care has built 18 independent living units and expressions of interest are now being accepted from potential tenants.

The units are on the corner of Lower Rd and Middle Rd in New Norfolk, right across from Corumbene Care. Designed as a retirement precinct, the units have been built with over-65s in mind, each two-bedroom unit is wheelchair accessible, heated and cooled by reverse-cycle heat-pumps, and has direct access from its own garage.

Potential tenants must be over 65 and be registered on the government’s priority housing register. All applications will be assessed by a panel and rent will be based on household income levels. For more information call Corumbene Care on 6261 2744.

Residents will have a say in how this communal area at The Village at Corumbene will be developed.

One Comment

  1. Thank you Corumbene Care for providing essential accessible social housing that is assessed at a percentage of income.

Affordable housing is based on 80% of the market rate assessed by an independent agent. With rents rising so quickly any community members on a limited income such as Newstart or a pension are not able to afford the rise.

There will be 18 households who will be able to sleep soundly at night knowing that they will not be homeless or forced out of the area during this property boom.

We need many more than 18.
