Initial Minor Flood Warning for the River Derwent

Issued at 8:01pm on Sunday 15 August 2021

Flood Warning Number 1: MINOR FLOODING LIKELY TO DEVELOP IN THE RIVER DERWENT CATCHMENT DURING MONDAY

Minor flooding likely to develop in the River Derwent at Below Meadowbank during Monday morning and may develop along the River Ouse from Monday evening. Since 9 am Sunday, rainfall totals of 10-30 mm have been recorded across the River Derwent catchment, with an isolated higher total of 40 mm at Narcissus River. A further 5-10 mm of rainfall is forecast for overnight Sunday into Monday. Strong and dangerous flows are likely to be a hazard for coming days.

River Ouse:

Minor flooding may occur along the River Ouse. The River Ouse at Ashton is currently at 0.80 metres and steady. The River Ouse at Ashton may peak near the minor flood level (2.40 m) Monday evening, based on observed and forecast rainfall. No observations are currently available for the River Ouse at Ouse. The River Ouse at Ouse may peak near the minor flood level (4.00 m) overnight Monday into Tuesday, based on observed and forecast rainfall.

River Clyde:

No flooding is expected along the River Clyde.

Styx River:

Strong river rises are expected to be occurring in the Styx River during Sunday evening. No observations are currently available for the Styx River at Bruces Bridge.

River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam:

Minor flooding is likely along the River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam. The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is currently at 2.52 metres and steady. The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is likely to exceed the minor flood level (4.10 m) Monday morning. The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains is currently at 1.05 metres and steady. The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains is expected to remain below the minor flood level (4.00 m) over the next few days.
