Monday: River to remain around minor flood level

Minor Flood Warning for the River Derwent

Issued at 11:00 am EST on Monday 2 August 2021

Flood Warning Number 6: RIVER DERWENT BELOW MEADOWBANK TO REMAIN AROUND MINOR FLOOD LEVEL MONDAY

The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is expected to remain close to the minor flood level during Monday. Renewed river rises above the minor flood level are possible during Monday and overnight into Tuesday.

No further flooding is expected along the River Ouse. River levels are elevated in many tributaries including the upper Derwent, Nive, Florentine, Tyenna, Styx and Plenty. Lake Augusta in the upper Ouse catchment is spilling. Flooding is not expected to extend downstream to Macquarie Plains and New Norfolk.

In the 24 hours to 9:00 am Monday, 5-15 mm of rainfall were recorded in western parts of the Derwent River catchment with up to 5 mm recorded elsewhere. No further significant rainfall is forecast for the remainder of Monday.

Strong and dangerous flows will be a hazard over the next couple of days.

River Derwent above River Ouse:

River levels are elevated along the Nive River and upper Derwent River.

River Ouse:

No further flooding is expected along the River Ouse. The River Ouse at Ashton is currently at 1.80 metres and falling (minor flood level is 2.40 m). Current levels are not available for River Ouse at Ouse. Based on available information, the River Ouse at Ouse is expected to remain below the minor flood level (4.00 m) during Monday.

River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam:

Renewed minor flooding is possible along the River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam. The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is currently at 3.94 metres and falling. The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is expected to remain around the minor flood level (4.10 m) during Monday. Renewed river rises are possible during Monday and the river level may reach 4.40 metres overnight Monday into Tuesday. The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains is currently at 2.60 metres and steady. The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains is likely to remain below the minor flood level (4.00 m) during Monday and Tuesday.

River Derwent around New Norfolk:

No flooding is expected on the River Derwent around New Norfolk.
