a fallen tree

Night of wild weather

DESPITE only being on the edge of the area covered by last night’s severe weather warning, extreme winds brought down trees and powerlines in the Derwent Valley and closed a local school.

Various roads were partially closed by fallen trees, including Lachlan Rd and Lower Swamp Rd at Lachlan, Millvale Rd at Dromedary, Mt Lloyd Rd at Mt Lloyd, and Gordon River Rd at Karanja. High-voltage powerlines fell across the Lyell Highway between Hamilton and Ouse, closing the highway for several hours. See the Tasmania Police community alerts for updates.

Westerway Primary School is closed today and at noon there are are about 150 customers without electricity at Glenfern, Moogara, Mt Lloyd, Uxbridge, New Norfolk, Ellendale and Fentonbury. Check here for updates from TasNetworks.

At New Norfolk, a large old tree fell from George St into the Woolworths supermarket.
