Severe Weather Warning for DAMAGING WINDS

For people in Upper Derwent Valley and parts of Western, South East, East Coast, Central Plateau and Midlands Forecast Districts.

Issued at 10:31 am Wednesday, 22 September 2021.

DAMAGING WINDS WITH A COLD FRONT ON THURSDAY.

Weather Situation: A cold front crossing Tasmania on Thursday will bring gusty winds over the state.

DAMAGING WEST TO NORTHWESTERLY WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 100 km/h are possible about southern and central parts of Tasmania during Thursday morning and afternoon. Wind gusts elsewhere about the south and east of Tasmania will likely reach 90 km/h during this time.

Winds are expected to ease below the warning threshold by the late Thursday afternoon. Damaging west to northwesterly winds become possible again on Friday over a more extensive area as a stronger cold front crosses around the middle of the day.

Locations which may be affected include Oatlands, New Norfolk, Bothwell, Geeveston, Dover and Huonville.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132500.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5pm Wednesday.
