Minor flooding of Ouse and Clyde possible tonight

Minor Flood Warning for the River Derwent

Flood Warning Number 3: MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE ALONG THE OUSE RIVER AND CLYDE RIVER SUNDAY EVENING

Minor flooding may develop along the Ouse River at Ouse and Clyde River at Hamilton from Sunday evening. In the 24 hours to 9am Sunday, widespread rainfall of 20-45 mm was recorded across the Derwent River catchment. Since 9 am Sunday, no significant rainfall has been recorded. Showers are forecast in the Derwent River Catchment for the remainder of Sunday, with 2-10 mm possible.

The catchment is wet from recent rainfall and river levels are likely to respond to rainfall. Strong and dangerous flows are likely to be a hazard for the coming days.

River Derwent above River Ouse:

Flooding is not expected along the River Derwent above the River Ouse.

River Ouse:

Minor flooding may occur along the River Ouse. The River Ouse at Ashton is currently peaking around 2.34 m, just below the minor flood level (2.40 m). The River Ouse at Ashton is likely to remain below the minor flood level (2.40 m) overnight Sunday into Monday. The River Ouse at Ouse may reach the minor flood level (4.00 m) Sunday evening.

River Clyde:

Minor flooding may occur along the River Clyde. The River Clyde at Bothwell peaked at 1.90 metres (below the minor flood level 2.00 m) around 01:00 pm Sunday 24 October and is currently at 1.85 metres and steady. The River Clyde at Bothwell is expected to remain below the minor flood level (2.00 m) overnight Sunday into Monday.

Water level data are currently not available from Hamilton. However river level data at upstream locations along the Clyde River and local reports indicate that the strong river rises are occurring at Hamilton. The River Clyde at Hamilton may reach the minor flood level (2.40 m) late Sunday evening.

Styx River:

The Styx River at Bruce’s Bridge is below the minor flood level (2.0 m).

River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam:

Flooding is no longer expected along the River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam. The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is currently at 3.15 metres and rising. The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is expected to remain below the minor flood level (4.10 m) overnight Sunday into Monday.
