THE Ouse community is rallying to support a local resident whose Water St house was destroyed in a $350,000 fire last Saturday night, October 30. Brigades from Ouse, Hamilton, Gretna and Ellendale attended the fire, which was deemed accidental.
The Ouse Community Country Club is staging a benefit tonight (Thursday) and will donate the proceeds of all meals. “Sadly one of our community members, Wendy Hean, has lost her house due to fire over the weekend,” the Country Club posted on its Facebook page. “As many of you may know, Wendy’s daughter Katrina works tirelessly in our kitchen each Thursday night cooking the delicious meals we serve.”
To help Wendy with the replacement of clothes and other personal items, the country club has changed its menu for tonight (November 4) and will offer chicken schnitzel, chips and coleslaw for $14. These can be eaten in or ordered as takeaway. The entire $14 from every meal sold tonight will be donated to Wendy to get back on her feet.
A raffle is also being planned in the community. Tickets will be available next week but at this stage the organisers are seeking donations of goods for prizes. Anyone who can help is asked to contact Lyn Brown at the Lachlan Hotel on 6287 1335 or Fran Macdonald on 6287 1431 or email email@example.com. “Let’s show what a community can do,” Lyn and Fran said.
Tasmania Fire Service spokesman Colin Cunningham thanked the community for its support of the people affected by the fire, including the provision of emergency accommodation.
