THE New Norfolk Cenotaph in Circle St will be the location of the Derwent Valley’s Remembrance Day service at 10.45am on November 11. The venue is the council chambers forecourt, which will be closed to parking from 8pm tonight (Wednesday) until noon tomorrow (Thursday).
This is organised by the New Norfolk RSL Sub-Branch and the Derwent Valley Council. All are welcome and attendees will be asked to sign-in under a Covid-Safe plan. The event will start at 10.45am and will include a minute’s silence at 11am. The RSL invites anyone wishing to lay wreaths on the Cenotaph to do so at the appropriate time on the day.
The Reverend Celia Hooker will speak and a bugler from the Derwent Valley Concert Band will sound the Last Post. A light lunch will follow at the RSL Clubrooms. Originally known as Armistice Day, Remembrance Day commemorates the moment that the guns of World War I fell silent at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918.
