YOUTH worker Matt Hill has been elected by recount to fill the Derwent Valley Council vacancy caused by the recent resignation of Paul Belcher. Mr Hill, of New Norfolk, will join Magra’s James Graham as the second of two new councillors at next month’s council meeting.
Mr Hill is well-known through his voluntary work as facilitator of the Derwent Valley Youth Future Action Team and his welfare role with the Salvation Army. He is the husband of former councillor Narelle Hill who served on the Derwent Valley Council earlier this century. The couple has an infant son, Eric.
It is understood that the two new councillors will be sworn-in later this week. By-elections will be held next month to fill the councillor and mayoral vacancies caused by the recent resignation of Ben Shaw. Deputy mayor Jessica Cosgrove is acting mayor in the meantime.
