Flood Watch for North West, North and North East, Huon, Derwent, and South East catchments

Issued at 11:52 am on Friday 7 January 2022 by the Bureau of Meteorology, Hobart.

Isolated minor flooding is possible in the Huon, Derwent, and South East catchments from Saturday morning.

A trough is moving slowly over Tasmania on Friday. Rain has eased to showers in northern parts. Thunderstorms are likely over the west and south during Friday and are possible elsewhere, with the potential for heavy rain.

Catchments in northern parts and along the east coast are relatively wet from recent rainfall. Central and southern parts are drier.

Forecast rainfall for the remainder of Friday: west, south and central plateau (widespread 10-30 mm with 30-50 mm in elevated areas and with storms); elsewhere (widespread 5-15 mm, higher with storms).

River rises are occurring in northern and east coast rivers due to overnight rainfall. Flood warnings are current for the Mersey, Macquarie, North Esk, South Esk rivers.

Isolated minor flooding is possible in Huon, Derwent and South East catchments from Saturday morning.

Localised flooding is also expected in areas that receive heavy rainfall.

Ringarooma River
North Coastal Rivers
Tamar (Launceston)
Northwest and Central Coastal Rivers
Arthur River
Huon River
Channel Coastal Rivers (South East Cape to Gordon)
Derwent River
Jordan River
Coal River
East Coastal Rivers (south of Bicheno)
South East
