Bingley to be sworn in tomorrow night

RETIRED environmental health officer Philip Bingley has been elected to fill the latest councillor vacancy on the Derwent Valley Council and will be sworn-in tomorrow (Tuesday) night.

The Tasmanian Electoral Commission telephoned Mr Bingley a short time ago to advise that he had been elected by recount to fill the vacancy caused by former councillor Frank Pearce becoming ineligible to remain on the council after moving interstate.

Mr Bingley, of Lachlan, will be sworn-in outside the Derwent Valley Council Chambers at 6pm on Tuesday, March 8. Mr Bingley will serve as a councillor until the council elections due in October this year. As the elections are now less than six months away, any further council vacancies will not be filled until that time.
