Mountain bike fatality at Maydena

TASMANIA Police have reported the death of a rider on the Maydena mountain bike trails earlier today. “Ambulance Tasmania and Tasmania Police were advised approximately 12.20pm today that there had been a serious crash involving a mountain bike rider … at Maydena in southern Tasmania,” a police spokesperson said.

“On arrival it was found that a 29-year-old man from Victoria had received life-threatening injuries as a result of crashing his mountain bike whilst descending a technical section of the track. This person was identified as an experienced rider and was wearing appropriate safety gear at the time of the crash,” they said.

“Despite the combined efforts of members of the public who were close by at the time of the crash, and emergency services personnel, the man could not be saved and died from the injuries sustained. Our thoughts are with the man’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.”

Police said a report would be prepared for the coroner.
