DERWENT Valley cricketers featured prominently in the Southern Cricket Association annual awards night last Wednesday.
From the New Norfolk Cricket Club, Jye Lester won First Grade player of the year and the best bowling average in first grade, with an average of 8.71 and 38 wickets. He has had an outstanding season and also made the men’s team of the year, along with Red Cap team-mate Josh Rowlands. Tara-Lee Pearce made the women’s team of the year for her outstanding season.
From the Gretna Cricket Club, Corey Ransley won the Second Grade bowling average with 31 wickets at an average of 10.52. He also won the second grade player of the season for his efforts with bat and ball. Brian Smith won keeper of the year in 5th Grade with 13 dismissals, and Simranpreet Singh was awarded the T20 player of the year.
Bothwell Cricket Club had Melinda Green make the women’s team of the year for her hard work. Josh Nichols won young player of the month for January. Jodi Hansch won the wicket keeper of the year for the women with her six dismissals. Nathan Eyles won the the 4th Grade batting average with 402 runs at an average of 44.67. Ashley Browning won the 7th Grade player of the year for his stellar season.
