Deputy mayor’s welcome to Ukrainian arrivals

A UKRAINIAN woman and her two children have been welcomed to the Derwent Valley after fleeing war-torn Ukraine. Deputy mayor Jessica Cosgrove visited Olesia Trukhanska and her son Dmytro and daughter Marco at the weekend.

Councillor Cosgrove said the family’s story was a powerful one, of finding hope in the darkest of moments. “Her family have only arrived a few weeks ago from the terrifying and unimaginable circumstances in Ukraine and are currently staying in the Derwent Valley,” she said.

Cr Cosgrove said Mrs Trukhanska and her son were both looking for work and if any was able to assist they could contact mayor Michelle Dracoulis by emailing mayor.mdracoulis@derwentvalley.tas.gov.au or via her Facebook page. Mrs Trukhanska is an accountant and bookkeeper and Dmytro, 17, speaks good English and Japanese and is skilled with information technology and 3D graphics.
