Late night oil spill in car park

FIREFIGHTERS and council officers last night attended a mysterious oil spill in Laskey’s car park in Pioneer Ave, New Norfolk. The incident was reported by Derwent Valley Council mayor Michelle Dracoulis who lives nearby and discovered the flow of oil while walking her dog,

The incident was reported at 10.30pm and a crew of four from the New Norfolk Fire Brigade was soon on the scene. An immediate priority was to divert the flow of oil from entering a nearby stormwater drain which empties into the River Derwent.

The Tasmania Fire Service declared a hazardous material alert and the firefighters were soon supported by a two-man crew from the Derwent Valley Council who placed sandbags and laid gravel on the carpark surface and gutters.

  1. A huge thank you going out to the two crews for their efforts to get this situation
    under control.

Our paid employees & volunteers working together is a very good demonstration of council & community getting on with it,
