New Norfolk man injured in bike and bus crash

A NEW Norfolk man was hospitalised earlier tonight after being involved in a motor vehicle accident in Hobart around 5.15pm. A Tasmania Police spokesman said the man was riding a bicycle that collided with a bus at the intersection of Liverpool and Barrack streets.

Police say the Metro bus was travelling through a green light at the intersection at the time. “The cyclist involved, a 27-year-old New Norfolk man, received non life-threatening injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at the Royal Hobart Hospital,” they said in a statement.

“Police do not believe speed, alcohol or drugs were a factor in this accident, but advise that this is a timely reminder for the wearing of appropriate safety equipment when travelling on bicycles and scooters. Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident and for any dash-cam footage and can contact 131 444 with any information.”
