Jim Allwright retains deputy role in Highlands

OUSE farmer Jim Allwright looks to have retained his role as deputy mayor of the Central Highlands Council after outpolling his opponent, retired Bothwell pilot Robert Cassidy. Of the 2010 votes cast, 1354 or 67.36% went to Cr Allwright and 656 votes or 32.64% went to Cr Cassidy.

Central Highlands mayor Lou Triffitt has been returned as mayor, unopposed, but Cr Triffitt and Cr Allwright must both be formally re-elected as as councillors prior to resuming their leadership roles. As of 2.30pm there has been no update in the councillor count since 3pm yesterday (Wednesday) when the Tasmanian Electoral Commission predicted that the make-up of the new council would be Loueen Triffitt, Jim Allwright, Tony Bailey, Robert Cassidy, John Hall, Julie Honner, Scott Bowden, David Meacheam and Rob Wilkinson.
