Mavis is blooming marvellous

NINETY years young Mavis Beattie continues to enjoy success with the fruits of her New Norfolk garden. The Derwent Valley Garden Club member had a successful outing to the Claremont Daffodil, Camellia and Spring Flower show last month.

The two-day event attracted exhibitors from a number of garden clubs and Mrs Beattie was named the Overall Club Champion for her exhibit of three distinct daffodils/jonquils in one container. The club champion prize is judged between the Claremont, Lenah Valley, Glenorchy and Derwent Valley garden clubs.

Mrs Beattie also received the prize for the best exhibit by a Derwent Valley Garden Club member, as well as the best exhibit for a vase of mixed flowers. “Mavis has been a member of the Derwent Valley Garden Club for 25 years and is an inspiration to us,” club president Janice Turner said.

The garden club meets first Thursday of the month. Call 0438 611 359 for more information.
