Update to Derwent catchment flood watch

This Flood Watch provides early advice of possible flooding within the specified catchments.

Flood Watch for the North West, North, North East, Derwent and Coal Catchments

Issued at 12:51pm on Saturday 22 October 2022, by the Bureau of Meteorology, Hobart.

RIVER LEVEL RISES ARE OCCURRING ON SATURDAY

Moderate rainfall developed across northern Tasmania on Friday. Saturday is bringing areas of rain, tending to showers from the west and easing throughout by evening. Heavy falls about the east.

Additional rainfall is possible particularly across the northern and eastern halves of the state for early next week. Catchments are wet and rivers will respond rapidly to rainfall. 30-50 mm is expected in the east. Higher falls are possible with thunderstorms.

Minor to moderate flooding is occurring in parts. Localised flooding is possible in small creeks and low lying areas in locations that receive heavy rainfall.

Catchments likely to be affected include:

  • East Coastal Rivers (north of Bicheno)
  • Ringarooma River
  • North Coastal Rivers
  • Forth River
  • Northwest and Central Coastal Rivers
  • Arthur River
  • Derwent River
  • Jordan River
  • Coal River

Flood warnings are current for the following catchments: North Esk River, South Esk River, Meander River, Macquarie River, Mersey River.
